Work From Home – Advice From A Veteran Freelancer

In This Post

Is this your first time working from home? Are you looking for some work from home advice? The sudden change in environment messing with your productivity? Here are some tips from a long time freelancer to help you in this transitioning period.

Due to the recent outbreak, a lot of traditional businesses are asking their employees to work from home.  Working from home can look very appealing but it’s fairly hard to stay on course when you are in the comfort of your own home.

Here’s some advice I have for people who are working remotely

1. Separate Your Living Space From Your Workspace

If you want to be productive, do not try to work from your bed. Find a quiet corner in your home which is comfortable and set your remote work station there.

2. Don’t Work In Your Pajamas

I know how comfortable they can be when #workingathome and how hard it is to not work in them. However, it’s almost impossible to be productive in your PJs.

3. Don’t Change Your Schedule

If you usually wake up at a certain time and follow a set schedule, don’t break it. It’ll be extremely hard going back to it.

4. Stay In Touch With Others

#workathome can get lonely, it doesn’t need to be. There are multiple collaboration platforms like Slack which allow you to be connected to your peers while you work #virtually

5. Don’t Forget To Take Care Of Yourself

When you work from home, you tend to lose track of time. You skip meals and don’t exercise which is lethal to your health and wellbeing.

6. Use Online Tools and Cloud Storage

Cloud storage is a boon in situations like these. Sharing your work has never been easier, so use it to your advantage and work in the cloud as much as possible and collaborate with your peers using the cloud.

7. Have set working hours

Working from home is confusing in a lot of ways, one of them is having random working hours. Set a specific time of working and work only during the time to be efficient.

8. Write Down Your Goals

It is very easy to get distracted when working from home. Goal setting is extremely important to stay productive and writing down your goals and making checklists is very helpful

9. Use Headphones When Working

This only applies to you if you are working in a crowded environment. Putting headphones on isolates you from other people even if there’s nothing playing and this helps you focus better on the task at hand.

I hope this work from home advice from a full-time freelancer helps you work efficiently and productively. If you are looking for someone to help with your content marketing efforts then don’t shy away from getting in touch with me.
